Michigan Steelhead Fishing Articles



Michigan Steelhead season runs November through May. Don't forget to book your trip for spring Steelhead fishing. Full an half days are available.

Michigan steelhead are undoubtedly the hardest, fighting most acrobatic, and most exciting fish to catch in the Great Lakes and possibly North America.

This is why steelhead are so highly sought after wherever they are found. In their native waters of the Pacific coast, fishermen will spend days sometimes or weeks in search of just one encounter with the prize fish. Michigan is home to some of the greatest steelhead streams in the world. Michigan is blessed with a year-round steelhead fishery with October through mid-December and March though April being prime times. Michigan steelhead are undoubtedly the most exciting fish to catch.

It is now opening season for Michigan Steelhead on the Muskegon River.  We encourage you to take advantage of the guided fishing specials offered by many local fishing guide services.  These guides are certified and fish the Muskegon River weekly - let them show you where the fish are.  Full and half day trips are available.

Everyday life is hectic and busy enough and fishing is a great stress reliever naturally.  The Muskegon River is one of the top 10 nationally known trout streams with in the United States.

Salmon can be prepared a number of ways, such as baked, canned, poached, smoked and grilled.

A four-ounce serving of salmon is full of important nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, which our bodies need but cannot generate. The American Heart Association recommends that we eat at least two servings of fish a week.

Hess Lake Rentals has Michigan vacation rentals and fishing cottages on many area inland lakes and the Croton Hardy Dam area on the Muskegon River.

Newaygo features many great panfishing lakes as well as river fishing.  Hess Lake, is known for its jumbo crappies. Try fishing jigs tiped with wax worms in about 6-8 feet of water in the bayou outside the Poco Casa Chalet.

Another favorite fishing lake is the Croton/Hardy Dams (Pond), just outside the Gray Goose. Croton Pond feautres great perch fishing, bluegills and monster pike. Just about any spot between the Croton-Hardy Dam area is a great place to fish.
